Wingback Denzel Dumfries has confirmed that contract extension talks with Inter Milan are currently in progress.

The Dutchman spoke to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset, via FCInterNews, also making clear that the Nerazzurri are aiming to win the Serie A title this season.

Wingback Dumfries’s contract may not be quite an imminent matter yet for Inter.

At the moment, the 27-year-old’s deal runs until the end of June 2025. He signed a four-year deal with the club when he joined from PSV during the summer of 2021, and that is what he is currently on.

However, Dumfries has become a regular starter for the Nerazzurri since joining. The club will not want to let him get too close to the expiration of his deal without resolving his future.

Particularly as far as next summer goes, Inter certainly wouldn’t want to have Dumfries go into the final year of his deal.

That is a hard lesson that the Nerazzurri learned with the circumstances of Milan Skriniar’s departure.

Of his prospective new contract, Dumfries said that “We’re in talks.”

“The initial conversations with the club have started,” he continued. “My agents are considering it.”

The Dutchman made clear that “I feel very good at Inter.”

“Let’s see what happens, but at the moment I’m focused on the pitch and I’m just thinking about winning with Inter.”

“My agents and the club will take care of the rest.”

Of how he’s doing at Inter, Dumfries made clear that “I get along very well with the coach and the staff.”

“They’re helping me a lot to grow technically, and I thank them for that.”

“Our main goal is winning the Serie A title,” Dumfries added. “We’re currently second in the table, and that’s the goal that’s eluded us for the past couple years.”

“All our efforts are focused on that,” he said.
