Inter Milan CEO Beppe Marotta labels club captain Lautaro Martinez as his own Lionel Messi. He also reveals his plans to end his managerial career with the Nerazzurri.

The Inter director was a guest in attendance as Italian journalist Fabrizio Biasin presented his new book “I hate football”.

The former Sampdoria and Juventus general director discussed several matters while on stage.

The presenter asked him if the Nerazzurri had ever tried to sign Leo Messi. Marotta shrugged it, suggesting it may have occurred before he arrived at the club in 2018.

“God forbid. There was a certain moment. But that was before I arrived,” said the 66-year-old via FcInter1908.

“Who is my Messi? Right now it’s Lautaro.”

The presenter also interrogated Marotta on the Inter captain, asking him whether he’s the best player he has ever had, also bringing up the contract renewal topic.

“I don’t know if he’s my best player ever. It’s a strong category. Lautaro is a young talent who has become a great player. Week after week, he’s playing and improving.

“Am I calm on the renewal? Yes, absolutely. It’s clear that I don’t want to give out any news, we are already in media overexposure.”

Finally, the Nerazzurri CEO is certain that Inter will be the final club in his illustrious managerial career.

“Yes. Inter will definitely be my last club. Afterwards, I would like to try my hand at sports politics.

“The Scudetto? Obviously having the second star sewn on the jersey would be a historic achievement.”
