Goalkeeper Yann Sommer has received praise for some vital saves for Inter Milan against Torino in yesterday evening’s Serie A win.
Today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews, give the Swiss a score of 6.5/10 in the player ratings for the match, highlighting some important saves at the end of the second half.
It was another clean sheet away from home for Sommer.
The 34-year-old has in fact yet to concede a goal away from the San Siro in Serie A.
As the second half went on, it looked less and less likely that Torino would break this streak.
But in the first half, Sommer did have some work to do in order to preserve the Nerazzurri’s clean sheet.
Granata forward Demba Seck in particular had an effort that required Sommer to react extremely quickly.
The former Bayern Munich and Borussia Monchengladbach veteran did just that, though. He was in the right position and recognized the danger of the 22-year-old Senegalese international’s shot.
Sommer tipped that effort wide of his far post. It was part of a flurry of three saves that he made to ensure that Torino’s best period of the match didn’t turn into anything concrete.
Yann Sommer Makes Crucial Saves For Inter Vs Torino
Sommer’s start to life at Inter has not been perfect.
The 34-year-old’s error to allow Sassuolo to equalize in a surprise loss at the San Siro particular has been a black mark on his copybook.
But Sommer has also gotten his team out of jail on a few occasions.
The Swiss international was absolutely crucial to the Nerazzurri snatching a draw against Real Sociedad in the Champions League.
And Sommer had a similar impact against Torino.
In the end the 3-0 scoreline may have seemed fairly comfortable for Inter. But had the Granata scored during their strongest spell, then there would have been real question marks.
Sommer has shown his experience to replace Andre Onana ably.
