Inter Milan wingback Federico Dimarco has come in for some criticism for his defensive performance against Torino.

As L’Interstia highlight, the player ratings for the match across Italian media saw the 25-year-old’s performance failure to contain Torino’s right side highlighted.

Dimarco started for Inter on Saturday evening.

The excellent recent form of Carlos Augusto was not enough to keep the Italian international from retaining his place in the starting eleven.

And there were aspects of Dimarco’s display that showed why he has become first-choice on the left over the past year or so.

The 25-year-old did put in a couple very useful deliveries into the penalty area.

But the issues that showed up in Dimarco’s performance were more defensive and tactical.

Inter Wingback Federico Dimarco Criticized For Being Defensively Exposed Vs Torino

Dimarco was coming up against his former coach from his Hellas Verona days Ivan Juric.

And there was another familiar face on the opposite flank in the form of wingback Raoul Bellanova, who had been at Inter last season.

The wide areas are very important for Juric as they are for Inter coach Simone Inzaghi.

Therefore, the battle between Dimarco and Bellanova was always likely to be a decisive one in determining which team would be able to control the space.

And in this sense, the Nerazzurri man didn’t fare altogether well.

Dimarco struggled with the pace, physicality, and energy of Bellanova, as well as Torino forward Demba Seck.

This meant that as the first half wore on, the Granata were able to exploit more of the space down their right side.

Inter coach Simone Inzaghi acted relatively quickly. He took Dimarco off and replaced him with Augusto.

And the change ended up working exactly as the Inter coach had intended. The Brazilian looked far more defensively solid down Inter’s left than Dimarco had done.
