Legendary former Inter Milan defender Marco Materazzi believes that striker Romelu Lukaku still has to explain himself to Nerazzurri fans.

The former defender spoke to Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport in an interview published in today’s print edition, via FCInterNews.

By now the story between Inter and Lukaku is well-known. Or at least, the basic facts have long been clear.

Lukaku had spent last season on loan with the Nerazzurri, who then attempted to sign him on a permanent basis from Chelsea.

However, Inter abruptly pulled the plug after learning of the extent of the Belgian’s negotiations with Juventus and AC Milan.

Or at least this is the version of the story that has been most common.

Lukaku himself remained relatively tight-lipped regarding the situation during the summer.

Then, the 30-year-old recently hinted that there is more to the story than has come out.

Lukaku suggested that he will eventually give his side of the story. However, he has not yet done so, except with one or two cryptic hints.

Materazzi: Romelu Lukaku Needs To Explain Himself

Materazzi gave the view that the thing that has really angered Inter fans about Lukaku’s behaviour has been “Silence and his timing.”

“He says that whenever he speaks, a lot of things will be cleared up,” the former defender went on.

“We hope so. But we Interisti are still waiting.”

Materazzi noted that “If I had made a choice like his, I would have already needed to explain it.”

“And I would have explained myself,” the former defender went on.

“Because there are things that don’t need to be said,” he went on. “Like that night in Madrid [Jose Mourinho leaving Inter aftter the 2010 Champions League final].”

“But then there are other things that are important to say,” the former defender continued. “To explain.”
