Striker Marcus Thuram is going beyond all expectations with the way that he’s started life at Inter Milan this season.

Today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Il GIornale, via FCInter1908, praise the Frenchman for the instant impact that he’s made since his arrival on a free transfer in the summer.

The fact that Inter did not pay a transfer fee for Thuram hardly made the expectations around him any less intense.

The Nerazzurri did invest significantly in the 26-year-old’s wages.

Moreover, there was significant competition for Thuram’s signature during the summer.

All of AC Milan, Paris Saint-Germain, and Bayern Munich reportedly wanted to sign the Frenchman.

Thuram was already a full French international when Inter completed a deal to sign him. And he was available at the end of his contract with Borussia Monchengladbach.

Marcus Thuram Going Beyond Expectations At Inter

Still, it is not as though the expectation was that Thuram would instantly become one of Inter’s absolutely key players.

A big part of the reason was the matter of adaptation.

Thuram had never played in Serie A before. He had spent three years in the Bundesliga with Gladbach.

Therefore, it appeared probable that he would need time to settle in to a new team and league.

Moreover, Thuram was having to fit into an unfamiliar tactical setup.

The Frenchman had not really played as an out-and-out striker prior to his final season at Gladbach.

And the pressure to replace players like Romelu Lukaku and Edin Dzeko was hardly a small matter.

But so far, Thuram has enjoyed an excellent start to life at the San Siro.

The Frenchman looks as though he’s played in his current position and with this team for far longer than he has actually done.

And this has resulted in five goals and five assists already for the 26-year-old.

Even the most optimistic predictions did not foresee this kind of an impact from Thuram.
