AC Milan will not try to go head-to-head with city rivals Inter Milan to sign Porto striker Mehdi Taremi, either in January or next summer.

This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews.

There is little doubt that Taremi is a player on Inter’s radar.

The 31-year-old had already been a target for the Nerazzurri during the summer transfer window.

However, in the end they decided to instead make the move to sign Marko Arnautovic from Bologna.

Meanwhile, AC Milan also made their attempt to sign Taremi.

And in fact, the Rossoneri went further than their city rivals to wrap up a deal for the Iranian’s signature.

By all accounts, Milan had been working in the final days of the window to get a deal over the line.

However, talks collapsed. Reports suggest that confusion between Milan and Taremi’s representatives was the issue there.

In the end, Milan instead got a last-minute deal to sign Luka Jovic done instead.

Why AC Milan Won’t Rival Inter To Sign Mehdi Taremi

And according to the Gazzetta, the nature of the breakdown in talks between Milan and Taremi’s entourage means that the Rossoneri have little interest in reigniting their pursuit.

On the contrary, the newspaper report, Milan will not make a move for Taremi.

The Gazzetta compare the situation to that between Inter and Udinese midfielder Lazar Samardzic.

The Nerazzurri had looked to be right on the verge of signing Samardizc during the summer.

But then, a dispute with the Serb’s agents caused the talks to break down.

Therefore, there would be little hope of Inter repairing their relationship with Samardizc’s representatives. Regardless of the midfielder’s quality on the pitch, Inter have no interest.

It is, the Gazzetta report, the same between Milan and Taremi.

For Inter, the Iranian is still a target. The Nerazzurri could try to move for Taremi either in the January transfer window or next summer on a free transfer.

But Milan will not be joining them in that pursuit.
