Midfielder Davy Klaassen admits that he was not expecting his move to Inter Milan at the end of the summer transfer window.

The Dutchman spoke to Dutch broadcaster ESPN, via FCInterNews, noting that he felt that he had to take advantage of the opportunity to play for the Nerazzurri.

30-year-old Netherlands international Klaassen joined Inter during the summer transfer window.

The move only materialized in the last couple of days of the window.

Klaassen had been playing for Ajax even towards the end of August. In fact, the Dutchman was in action in a Europa League playoff against Ludogorets on August 31st.

But on September 1st, hours before the deadline, Klaassen signed his Inter contract.

The former Everton and Werder Bremen came to the Nerazzurri to provide depth in midfield.

Inter had been looking for one last signing to complete their summer transfer window. The target was an experienced and versatile midfielder.

And Klaassen was the player who the Nerazzurri decided upon.

Even if it was hardly a move that had been in the works for a long time.

Davy Klaassen Admits Inter Move Wasn’t Something He Expected

“It all started at the end of last season,” Klaassen noted of his departure from Ajax.

“I had the feeling that Ajax would take a different path,” he went on.

“As the preseason preparations went on, I felt that way more and more,” the 30-year-old admitted.

“Then I thought – If something good comes along, I’m open to saying goodbye.”

Klaassen said that “There were many clubs interested. But only when Inter arrived did I feel convinced.”

The 30-year-old was positive about playing for the Nerazzurri.

“This is a really great club,” he said.

“I didn’t expect it to happen on deadline day,” the Dutchman added. “But when they came in for me, I knew I couldn’t pass up the opportunity.”
