Midfielder Davy Klaassen has made the move from Ajax and Inter Milan following a truly whirlwind courtship.

As Italian news outlet FCInterNews, the 30-year-old’s move follows just a couple days of negotiations kept tightly under wraps, and then a final day scramble to get the documents in order.

In football, there are transfer sagas that drag on for weeks and months.

And then there are signings that seem to materialize virtually out of thin air.

The arrival of Klaassen at Inter certainly belongs to the latter category.

Yesterday, the day in which the Italian transfer window shut, Inter announced the Dutchman as a Nerazzurri player officially. And this arrived not even 24 hours after the rumours that they even had an interest in him first emerged.

How Davy Klaassen Made The Move From Ajax To Inter Milan At 11th Hour

According to FCIN, the contacts between Inter and Klaassen’s representatives began on Tuesday of this week.

With the closing of the transfer window looming, Inter were still hoping to reinforce in midfield.

The Nerazzurri had reportedly looked at a lot of profiles. The likes of Maxime Lopez, Tanguy Ndombele, and Boubakary Soumare reportedly all came onto their radar.

However, for one reason or another, none of those players panned out.

Inter cast a wide net as the transfer deadline approached – and Klaassen was the player who proved to be within their grasp.

The former Everton and Werder Bremen man is a player who the Nerazzurri identified as suitable to add quality and depth to their squad.

And Klaassen himself was very receptive to Inter’s interest.

The Dutchman had reportedly rejected an offer from Saudi Pro League side Al-Ettifaq. He could have earned as much as €6 million net per season playing for the Saudi side.

However, for both footballing and family reasons, Klaassen was not keen to leave Europe.

But when Inter’s interest arrived, the 30-year-old didn’t hesitate.

This allowed the negotiations between he and the Nerazzurri to progress extremely rapidly. All parties naturally wanted to wrap the deal up before the deadline made the move impossible.

And Klaassen and his agents also managed to convince Ajax to release him from his contract.

Inter were not really able to invest in a transfer fee after a busy summer of other spending. But despite the fact that Klaassen’s deal with Ajax had run until the end of next June, the Dutch giants permitted him to leave on a free transfer.

Therefore, Klaassen flew to Milano on deadline day yesterday.

The player’s medicals went quickly, with necessity playing a factor.

Then, there was a bit of a nervous wait for all the necessary documents to arrive. FCIN report that it took Ajax five hours to send them through.

But once they did, everything was ready to go – Klaassen became Inter’s final signing in a busy summer.
