A Champions League win over Red Bull Salzburg this evening would guarantee Inter Milan €12.4 million in revenues.

This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews. The newspaper note that the Nerazzurri could take their total earnings from the competition to €28 million.

Inter can book their place in the Champions League round of sixteen if they beat Salzburg this evening.

A victory against the Austrian champions would mathematically guarantee the Nerazzurri’s spot in the knockout rounds, as neither Salzburg nor Benfica would be able to catch them on ten points.

Qualifying for the knockouts with a couple of matches to spare would certainly be a luxury for Inter.

And it would also seal some key revenues early on.

Champions League Win Vs Salzburg Worth €12.4M To Inter

So far, Inter are guaranteed €16 million in revenues just from participation in the Champions League.

Naturally, the revenues from the group stage of Europe’s top club competition are crucial for the Nerazzurri.

Inter set qualifying for the Champions League as a bare minimum requirement each season. And this cash is a big part of the reason why, beyond the prestige.

But the Nerazzurri obviously also aim to go well beyond that initial cash windfall.

Last season, Inter earned over €100 million from the Champions League. This came as they reached the final of the competition.

Clearly, reaching the final again would be a very ambitious target.

But even just getting to the knockouts again would have a very positive financial impact for Inter.

The Nerazzurri have done so in each of the past two seasons, both of Simone Inzaghi’s in charge.

And qualification would be worth €9.6 million this time around. That is before any prize money or gate receipt revenues from an eventual round of sixteen tie are factored in.

In addition, beating Salzburg this evening would take Inter’s total earnings from bonuses for wins in the competition to €2.8 million.
