Inter Milan President Steven Zhang remains the “number one sponsor” of coach Simone Inzaghi at the Nerazzurri.
Today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, highlight the continued excellent relationship between the two men.
Reports have always suggested a very positive working relationship between Zhang and Inzaghi.
And more than that, the two men even have a strong personal friendship.
For Zhang, it is not just a matter of trusting that Inzaghi will deliver the goods on the pitch. The President is also happy with having a coach he feels comfortable speaking openly with.
This was never quite the case when Antonio Conte was in charge of the Nerazzurri, for example.
Therefore, Zhang has always been very much in Inzaghi’s corner, so to speak.
And the coach has certainly benefited from this at times during his Inter tenure.
Last season, there were widespread reports that Inzaghi’s job was under threat.
Inter’s form in the league was far more erratic than expectations for them. Particularly in the spring, an awful sequence of results saw the Nerazzurri’s top four spot in jeopardy.
After a run of just one point from five matches, there was plenty of speculation that Inzaghi had to go.
And yet, the 47-year-old stuck around.
Inzaghi certainly vindicated Inter’s faith in him. He delivered what looked a comfortable top four finish in the end.
There was also, of course, the Coppa Italia, and the Champions League final.
Zhang Still The “Main Sponsor” Of SImone Inzaghi At Inter
The end to last season certainly strengthened Zhang’s trust in Inzaghi.
Inter handed the former Lazio coach a new contract in the summer.
There was never much doubt that the Nerazzurri wanted to continue on with Inzaghi, not least after he delivered a place in the Champions League final.
And now, Inzaghi is more a fixture at Inter than ever.
This includes in terms of his personal relationship with Zhang.
Unlike the coach, the President has not been a big presence at Inter this season – at least not physically.
Zhang has been in China, attending to other business matters.
But according to the Gazzetta, Inzaghi and Zhang still speak regularly.
The President made a phone call after the team’s win over Roma in Serie A. He congratulated Inzaghi and spoke about the situation with the team.
As far as Zhang is concerned, Inzaghi is still a figure in whom he trusts absolutely.
