Inter Milan are on the verge of extending the contract of wingback Federico Dimarco.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who report that the Nerazzurri will more or less double the 26-year-old’s wages.

At the moment, Dimarco’s contract with Inter runs until the end of June 2026.

The Italian international signed his most recent extension in the fall of 2021.

But in the two or so years that have elapsed since then, Dimarco’s standing in the team has changed significantly.

When the Italian signed his most recent extension, he was not necessarily a regular starter for Inter.

At that time Dimarco was more of a utility player, with his versatility allowing him to deputize for both Ivan Perisic and Alessandro Bastoni. However, he did not make either the left-wingback or left centre-back role his own.

But last season that changed.

Dimarco stepped up following the departure of Perisic.

A string of outstanding performances from the Italian international were enough for him to put his stamp on the spot on the left flank of Inter’s starting eleven.

Dimarco did so ahead of Robin Gosens, who left in the summer. And he has remained first-choice, even despite the good form of summer arrival Carlos Augusto.

Inter Close To Extending Contract Of Federico Dimarco

Yesterday Dimarco underlined just how vital he is to this Inter side with his goal against Frosinone.

This was the second time this season that the Italian international had opened the scoring in a tough match with a spectacular effort.

And with all due respect to Dimarco’s long-range volley against Empoli, yesterday’s was even better.

Dimarco floated the ball over the head of Frosinone keeper Stefano Turati from barely past the halfway line.

The 26-year-old has chipped in with decisive goals and assists. And his range of passing is key to how the team now play under SImone Inzaghi.

Therefore, the Nerazzurri will want to secure Dimarco’s long-term future soon.

And of course, a pay raise will also accompany a new deal for Dimarco.

The Italian currently earns €2.2 million net per season. According to the Gazzetta, that will double, more or less, in the new contract that Inter are ready to offer the player.

And according to the newspaper, the new deal is not far on the horizon.

Dimarco is ready to put pen to paper, and it could come very soon.
