Inter Milan have some anxiety about the fitness of wingback Denzel Dumfries as he is on international duty with the Netherlands.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

Dumfries is currently in the training camp of the Dutch national team.

The Oranje face two important fixtures during the current international break.

First, there is a EURO 2024 qualifying match against Ireland at home. Then the Dutch play away to Gibraltar in another EURO 2024 qualifier.

These matches could prove to be decisive for the Netherlands reaching the Euros next summer.

The Oranje are currently second in their group. Group leaders France have already qualifier.

But the Netherlands are level on points with Greece in the standings.

Therefore, there will not be much margin for error as far as slipping up in the matches against Ireland and Gibraltar.

Inter Anxious About Denzel Dumfries Fitness With Netherlands

Given the significance of the upcoming matches, there is little question that Netherlands coach Ronald Koeman will want to put out his strongest team possible.

And Dumfries is certainly a player in that lineup.

The Inter wingback has been a key man for the Dutch playing on the right flank for several years now.

Dumfries starred with some eye-catching performances for the Oranje at both the last Euros and at the World Cup in Qatar last winter.

And he will be pushing to make it another major tournament appearance for the Netherlands.

But for Inter, this situation is perhaps not ideal.

Dumfries had already been dealing with some muscular fatigue in the matches before the international break.

Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi decided to rest the 27-year-old in the Champions League group stage match away to Red Bull Salzburg. Dumfries neither started nor came off the bench then.

And then the former PSV man started against Frosinone on Sunday.

But it was not a vintage performance from Dumfries. There was a bit of a sense that he was struggling.

So Inter will be watching how things unfold for Dumfries and the Netherlands over the next couple weeks.

The Dutchman is an important player on the right flank for Inter. All the moreso given injuries to Juan Cuadrado and Benjamin Pavard.

So Inter will be hoping that Dumfries returns in good physical condition. And certainly that he doesn’t exacerbate his fitness issues.
