Inter Milan are reportedly leading the race to sign Lille defender Tiago Djalo as a free agent for next season.

The 23-year-old is a Sporting Lisbon youth product who also spent a single campaign with Milan’s Primavera squad.

The Portuguese has been sharpening his tools at Lille since 2019, cementing himself as one of the most sought-after young defenders in Europe.

The Nerazzurri have been on his trail for quite some time now. However, he sustained a cruciate ligament injury last season that ruled him out of action for several months.

The versatile defender has yet to make his return to the pitch. Nevertheless, Inter are still keen on his services.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport via TuttoMercatoWeb, the Beneamata are in pole position to sign Djalo, while Juventus are trailing behind.

The Bianconeri’s director of football Cristiano Giuntoli is also an admirer of the Portuguese.

But as the source claims, Inter should be able to win the race barring any unexpected twists.

The pink newspaper believes the Nerazzurri will make Djalo their first signing for next season.

The young defender essentially plays at centre-back, but can also cover as a fullback on either flank.

Djalo represented the Portuguese national team in various age groups. He received a call-up from the first team prior to his injury, but has yet to make his senior debut.
