Former Bayern Munich striker Luca Toni admits he hopes Inter Milan don’t beat Juventus tomorrow so the Serie A title race stays tight.

The 2006 World Cup winner gave his thoughts in an interview published in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

Inter could go five points clear at the top of the Serie A table if they beat Juventus tomorrow.

Obviously that is easier said than done.

But it is an enticing prospect for the Nerazzurri. They know that in ninety minutes they have the chance to give themselves a real gap and some breathing room in their title pursuit.

On the other hand, for neutral Serie A fans, it is perhaps not so positive to think about.

Already last season, there was little title race.

After the first few weeks of the campaign, Napoli were well clear of everyone else.

On the other hand, in the previous season, Inter and AC Milan took things down to the final day of the season. And the Partenopei had also been in it for much of the campaign.

Naturally, that would be the more exciting kind of season for those without a particular sympathy with any of the teams at the top.

And former Bayern, Juventus, and Fiorentina striker Toni admits that he’s in that camp.

Luca Toni: Hope Inter Don’t Beat Juventus & Run Away With Serie A

Looking ahead to tomorrow’s match, Toni said “We have to hope that Inter don’t win tomorrow.”

“That’s the only way to keep the title race alive…” he said.

A draw would maintain the status quo at the top of the table.

Neither AC Milan nor Napoli can catch either Juventus or Inter.

However, it would at least give both the Rossoneri and the Partenopei, each of whom play this evening, the chance to at least gain some ground.

Meanwhile, a Juventus victory would see the Bianconeri overtake Inter at the top. Albeit only by a solitary point.,
