Versatile Cagliari midfielder Nahitan Nandez could be back on the radar of Inter Milan.

This according to Italian news outlet Centrotrentuno. The outlet claims that a swap deal for young midfielder Gaetano Oristanio could be on the cards to bring the 27-year-old to the Nerazzurri.

Inter have already targeted former Boca Juniors midfielder Nandez in the past.

There was a fairly lengthy transfer saga between the Nerazzurri and the Cagliari midfielder in the summer of 2021.

Nandez had showed under then-Rossoblu coach that he was capable of playing at wingback.

This had marked the Uruguayan out as a possible target to replace Achraf Hakimi. Replacing the Moroccan was one of Inter’s major priorities that summer.

In the end, however, the Nerazzurri moved for Denzel Dumfries instead. The Dutchman arrived from PSV to replace Hakimi.

That ended Inter’s interest in Nandez at the time.

The Uruguayan stayed at Cagliari.

Nandez remained in Sardinia even following the Rossoblu’s relegation to Serie B. He helped them come straight back up last season, and has been a fixture in the starting eleven this season under Claudio Ranieri.

Cagliari Midfielder Nahitan Nandez Linked With Inter Again

According to Centrotrentuno, the links between Inter and Nandez have emerged again.

The outlet claims that Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi has indicated that he would sanction the 27-year-old’s arrival.

Nandez is still capable of playing in a wingback or wide midfield role. But the Uruguayan is also proficient playing in a variety of more central roles.

This versatility – as well as Serie A experience – could mark Nandez out as a target for Inter to bolster their squad.

And according to Centrotrentuno, there is a specific idea being considered to make the move happen.

Inter could send young attacking midfielder Oristanio the other way as part of a swap deal.

Oristanio is currently on loan with Cagliari. He has featured regularly in the starting eleven as the Rossoblu fight off relegation.

The Sardinians have an option to buy Oristanio permanently from Inter.

But according to Centrotrentuno, he could instead stay at Cagliari as part of a swap deal for Nandez.
