Napoli pushing to sign one-time Inter Milan target Lazar Samardzic from Udinese could open the door to Piotr Zielinski joining the Nerazzurri.

Today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, highlight the midfield merry-go-round.

Inter’s efforts to sign 21-year-old Serbian international Samardzic during the summer ended in a high-profile debacle.

The Nerazzurri had seemingly wrapped up a deal for the Udinese midfielder.

Everything was in place between Inter and the Friulani. And Samardzic even underwent his medical on the move.

But a confusing disagreement between Inter and the midfielder’s representatives – particularly his father – torpedoed the transfer.

Therefore, Samardzic remained at Udinese for the start of the season.

There would certainly not be a chance of Inter going back in for the Serb following the summer soap opera.

But that certainly does not mean that other Serie A clubs aren’t keen.

Among the teams with the strongest interest in Samardzic’s signature is Napoli.

How Napoli Signing Lazar Samardzic Could Open Door To Zielinski Inter Move

Reports suggest that the Partenopei have reignited their pursuit of Samardzic.

And a move for the 21-year-old would send a clear message regarding Napoli’s transfer plans.

The Gazzetta note that, if Napoli were to sign Samardzic, it would more or less be as a like-for-like replacement for 29-year-old Polish international Zielinski.

Zielinski’s contract with the Italian champions expires at the end of next June.

And Napoli are considering a succession plan if they’re unable to convince the Pole to sign a new deal.

Therefore, if the Partenopei were to move decisively for Samardzic, it would almost certainly mean that Zielinski would be on the way out.

And that would open the door for none other than Inter to sign the Pole.

The Nerazzurri are very attentive to Zielinski’s situation. The 29-year-old’s potential availability on a free transfer means that they sense the possibility of a real coup.

Inter may have missed out on Samardzic in the summer. But they are still targeting a player with the former RB Leipzig midfielder’s profile.

And that player could well end up being Zielinski.
