Defender Benjamin Pavard will be aiming to make his return from a knee injury in Inter Milan’s Serie A match against Lecce before Christmas.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

At the moment, Pavard is still out with a knee injury.

The Frenchman picked up the problem in a Serie A match against Atalanta around a month ago. The cause was a clash of knees with La Dea forward Ademola Lookman.

Pavard had had to wear a protective knee brace whilst he recovered.

However, the former Bayern Munich and Stuttgart defender was able to remove the brace last week.

Therefore, Pavard has been getting back to fitness by working in personalized training over the next few days.

Benjamin Pavard Aiming To Make Return For Inter Vs Lecce Before Christmas

Pavard has already missed a number of big matches for Inter with his injury.

These have included two Champions League group stage matches, and last weekend’s match away to Juventus in Serie A.

And of course Pavard will also play no part against Napoli in this evening’s league encounter.

But a return may not be too far on the horizon.

Initial projections seemed to indicate that Pavard would return some time around Christmas and the new year.

Naturally, Inter coach Simone Inzaghi will be anxious to get the Frenchman back as soon as possible.

Pavard has been a key defensive piece for Inzaghi since joining from Bayern in the summer.

Matteo Darmian has filled in ably in Pavard’s absence. But the big issue concerns defensive depth – of which there is very little with Pavard out.

According to the Gazzetta, Pavard now has a clear target in mind.

The Frenchman could be back for the match against Lecce in the league just a few days before Christmas.
