Inter Milan are optimistic about signing Lille defender Tiago Djalo on a free transfer next summer despite other clubs entering the picture.

This according to Italian broadcaster SportItalia, via FCInterNews.

Inter have been moving aggressively in their pursuit of 23-year-old Portguese youth international Djalo.

The defender’s contract with Lille runs out at the end of next June. And he has made clear that he will not extend his deal.

Therefore the Nerazzurri have sensed an opportunity to sign Djalo on a free transfer next summer.

And the contacts with the player’s representatives have been very positive.

Djalo has been very receptive to the idea of joining Inter when his contract with Lille expires.

This has put the Nerazzurri in the driver’s seat to sign the Portuguese.

But that does not mean that Inter are the only team still hoping to sign Djalo next summer.

The likes of Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain, and Atletico Madrid have all been linked with the 23-year-old.

Naturally, Djalo’s availability on a free transfer makes him an attractive target for a number of big clubs in Europe.

Inter Still Optimistic About Signing Lille Defender Tiago Djalo Despite Competition

According to SportItalia, the fact that other clubs are also showing an interest in signing Djalo has not caused Inter to worry to much.

The Nerazzurri have already gone quite some way towards laying the groundwork for the Portuguese’s arrival.

Therefore, Inter still believe that they will be able to get the deal over the line in the end.

Of those clubs interested in signing the Lille defender, Inter are still the one to have made by far the most progress.

The Nerazzurri had already targeted Djalo as early as last January. He was among their prospective replacements for Milan Skriniar in defense.

And that interest has never gone away. Inter remain optimistic that with Djalo’s contract just a few months away from expiring, they are in the driver’s seat.
