Turkiye manager Vincenzo Montella lauds Inter Milan star Hakan Calhanoglu as the best midfielder in Italian football.

The Roma and Sampdoria legend had previously worked with the 29-year-old briefly during his time at the helm of AC Milan.

Neither man found great success during that run, However, Calhanoglu has certainly improved by leaps and bounds since 2017.

The midfielder has cemented himself as a key component in Simone Inzahgi’s formation since joining the Nerazzurri in 2021.

Since last season, the Inter manager has been transforming the Turkish into a deep-lying playmaker.

Marcelo Brozovic’s injury prompted this experience, but Hakan has been excelling in his role.

The former Bayer Leverkusen star has now reunited with Montella who had been appointed as the manager of the Turkish national team.

The legendary Italian striker appears delighted to work with Calhanoglu, pouring praise over the Turikiye captain.

Montella describes the Nerazzurri star as the best midfielder in Italian football. He even goes on to suggest that Calhanoglu might just be the best in the world.

“At the moment, Hakan is the best midfielder in Italy, perhaps the world,” said Montella during the Euro Mediterranean Prize via FcInterNews.

This season, the Turkiye stalwart has made 14 appearances in Serie A, contributing with six goals and an assist. He also has a single strike from three Champions League outings. Almost all of his strikes came from the spot.

Calhanoglu is also one of the biggest icons in Turkish football history with 17 international goals to his name from 82 caps.
