Lazio winger Gustav Isaksen is a doubt for the Serie A match against Inter Milan on December 17th due to injury.
This according to Italian news outlet FCInterNews, who note that the Biancocelesti confirm that the 22-year-old Danish international has suffered a strain to his left thigh.
Winger Isaksen joined Lazio during the summer transfer window.
The Dane arrived from Midtjylland.
There were significant expectations surrounding Isaksen when he made the move. The young winger had shone last season in his home country’s top flight.
However, given his age it is perhaps little surprise that Isaksen has not made an instant impact in the Biancocelesti’s first-choice eleven.
The 22-year-old came to back up and provide competition for considerably more experienced wingers such as Felipe Anderson and ex-Barcelona and Chelsea veteran Pedro.
Former Hellas Verona is also a more established option with plenty of Serie A experience.
And over the first couple months of the season it has been Anderson, Pedro, and Zaccagni who have started far more often than Isaksen.
But in the past few weeks the Dane has gotten his chances.
Lazio Winger Gustav Isaksen A Doubt For Serie A Clash Vs Inter
Isaksen had started in the Champions League against Celtic in a group stage match. That match saw the Biancocelesti secure their spot in the round of sixteen of the competition.
Then, the Dane also kept his starting spot for a subsequent Serie A match against Cagliari.
Isaksen’s momentum continued as he started in the Coppa Italia on Tuesday.
However, the 22-year-old unfortunately experienced a setback during that match, in the form of a muscle injury.
Isaksen came off as a substitute in the 27th minute of the round of sixteen match against Genoa.
The winger’s club have confirmed that he suffered a muscle injury.
Specifically, Isaksen picked up a strain to the rectus femoris of his left thigh.
Lazio have confirmed that Isaksen has begun a rehabilition program for his injury.
What is very clear is that the Dane will play no part against Hellas Verona tomorrow.
But as far as the next Serie A match against Inter, it is less certain.
