Inter Milan have yet to make a decision regarding the future of forward Alexis Sanchez.

This according to Italian news outlet Gazzetta.it. The Gazzetta report that Sanchez would be happy to stay, but that there are offers on the table for him if the Nerazzurri decide not to offer him a new contract.

Sanchez arrived at Inter on a free transfer during the summer.

Somewhat ironically, the Chilean made the move following the expiration of his contract with Marseille. Sanchez had only joined the Ligue 1 club last summer after Inter had terminated his contract.

And going the other way was Inter-owned forward Joaquin Correa.

Correa had fallen very much out of favour at the Nerazzurri, and left to try and re-gain his form in the French top flight.

Therefore, Inter for all intents and purposes switched out one forward for another.

Sanchez signed a one-year contract with Inter, which expires until the end of June 2024.

And the 34-year-old will earn a total of €2.8 million net for the season.

As the Gazzetta notes, Sanchez has already “payed back” that amount in a certain respect. The Chilean scored in Champions League matches against Red Bull Salzburg and Benfica.

And so given that the bonus payment from UEFA for a win in the Champions League is €2.8 million, and for a draw is €930,000, Sanchez’s goals have already been worth what Inter invested.

Inter Yet To Make A Decision On Future Of Alexis Sanchez

However, despite proving very useful in the Champions League so far, Sanchez has not had that much of an impact otherwise.

In fact, the former Arsenal and Barcelona has made by far his biggest contributions in Europe.

Sanchez had also played an important role in spurring on Inter’s late fightback to salvage a point away to Real Sociedad in their group stage opener.

But in Serie A, it has largely been substitute appearances for Sanchez.

The 34-year-old has not really shown that he can start matches regularly without there being a noticeable drop-off from the starting pair of Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram.

Sanchez will still have a few more months in which to make an impact.

Inter will be watching closely to see whether the Chilean can prove that he is still a useful player to have in the squad.

The club are far from convinced that they should offer Sanchez a new deal. But at the same time, they have not closed the door.

But if the Nerazzurri decide not, then Sanchez will be on his way in the summer.

The 34-year-old had in fact had other offers during the summer.

Among these were clubs in Saudi Arabia, Mexico’s Liga MX and North America’s Major League Soccer.

Sanchez decided to reject those offers. He preferred to stay in European football, and prioritized a return to Inter.

But should the Nerazzurri decide not to offer a contract extension to the Chilean, then he will have other offers to choose between.
