Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi will be hellbent on ending his woes against his former employers Lazio this weekend.

With Juventus dropping two points in Genoa on Friday, the Nerazzurri can break away in the lead with a victory at the Stadio Olimpico.

However, Inzaghi will have to dispel a taboo that has been haunting him since leaving the Italian capital.

The 47-year-old spent the vast majority of his playing career at Lazio. He then took charge of the first team as head coach in 2016. He remained at the helm till 2021 when he opted to sign for Inter.

But as La Gazzetta dello Sport (via FcInterNews) explains, the manager hasn’t been able to conquer his former club when returning to the Italian capital.

Since taking charge of Inter, Inzaghi lost the two away fixtures against Maurizio Sarri’s Lazio. Curiously both encounters ended 3-1 in favor of the Biancocelesti.

Inter Milan Coach Simone Inzaghi Will Be Looking To Dispel The Curse Against Lazio

The source notes that both meetings included controversial incidents.

In 2021/22, the referee awarded Lazio a dubious penalty when the ball struck the arm of Alessandro Bastoni.

Last season, Inzaghi decided to give Roberto Gagliardini a rare start to mark Sergej Milinkovic-Savic. This choice ended up backfiring.

On the contrary, the report reveals that Sarri had often enjoyed success when hosting Inter.

The former Napoli and Juventus coach won five fixtures and drew twice in seven home fixtures against the Nerazzurri. He’s yet to taste defeat while hosting Inter.

So we shall see if Sarri will manage to extend his positive run at home against the Beneamata or will it be Third time’s a charm for Inzaghi
