Inter Milan vice-president Javier Zanetti confirms the club’s plans to find a replacement for Juan Cuadrado in January.

The 35-year-old joined the Nerazzurri on a free transfer from Juventus in the summer but has been struggling with an Achilles tendon problem since September.

The Colombian will have to undergo surgery to repair this plaguing issue. However, his recovery could take several months. This leaves the club exposed on the right flank.

Therefore, Zanetti reveals the club’s intention to bolster their wingback department.

The Nerazzurri icon says the management will explore the market in search of the right profile.

“At the moment, the only concern we have is Cuadrado who decided to undergo surgery,” said the Inter vice-president while representing the club at the Champions League Round of 16 draw in Nyon.

“We are evaluating possible opportunities to replace him,” admitted Zanetti in his interview with Mediaset via FcInterNews.

“He could have given us a lot. Now we are missing a player in the wingback department.”

As for the Champions League draw, the Serie A leaders were pitted against Atletico Madrid.

This will be a special match for the Spaniards’ manager Diego Simeone who played for Inter between 1997 and 1999.

Zanetti took the opportunity to hail his compatriot and former teammate for his extraordinary work in the Spanish capital.

“Let’s remember that we were facing Real Sociedad who reached the round of 16 with merit. We tried to win but we couldn’t, we came second and we knew that this draw would be complicated.

“But now we know who we will face and we will prepare ourselves as best we can.

“I think Simone is doing an extraordinary job. He has great players at his disposal and brings out the best in each of them.”
