Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martinez has suffered an issue with his left thigh during a Coppa Italia clash with Bologna.

GianlucaDiMarzio.com reports that the Argentine picked up the issue during the extra time period of the 2-1 loss for the Nerazzurri. Further medical tests will take place in the coming days.

Inter had an evening to forget as they crashed out of the Coppa Italia in their first match in the competition this season.

The Nerazzurri have won the trophy in each of the past two seasons. But this time around they will not be going any further than the round of sixteen.

And to make matters worse, Inter captain Martinez exited the pitch with a possible injury.

Inter Captain Lautaro Martinez Picks Up Thigh Problem vs Bologna

Martinez started this evening’s match against Bologna.

Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi made a number of rotations to the squad. But Martinez was among the players who kept his place from the starting eleven against Lazio on Sunday.

The Argetine played the entire ninety minutes, which finished 0-0.

Then, Martinez remained on the pitch during extra time.

The Inter captain was on the pitch as his team took the lead within the first couple minutes of extra time via a Carlos Augusto header.

And Martinez stayed on the pitch beyond that point, as Inter looked to see out the match and move on to the quarterfinals of the Coppa Italia.

But it proved to be a bitter ending in more ways than one for Martinez and Inter.

The 26-year-old indicated to the bench that he was feeling some discomfort in his left thigh.

And eventually, Inzaghi took his captain off in the ninth minute of the first half of extra time.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan replaced Martinez.

When the striker came off, he was holding his left thigh towards his groin region in clear discomfort.

Martinez was visibly in tears whilst on the bench, hiding his face behind a towel.

What is not entirely clear is whether this was a result of pain from an injury, or whether the striker was upset at having missed a penalty during the second half of the match.
