Goalkeeper Yann Sommer feels that there’s a lot more credit than just for himself for Inter Milan’s impressive record of clean sheets this season.

The Swiss international spoke to German tabloid Spot Bild. via FCInterNews.

Sommer has certainly enjoyed a positive start to life at Inter.

The 35-year-old former Bayern Munich and Borussia Monchengladbach keeper had a big task on his hands replacing the likes of Andre Onana and Samir Handanovic.

But so far, Sommer has kept clean sheets in the majority of matches he’s played for Inter.

Plenty of this is on the keeper’s shoulders. Sommer has had a great start in his first season in a Nerazzurri shirt.

There may have been one or two errors or unconvincing moments. But these have been far outweighed by the Swiss’s string of outstanding saves.

But by the same token, Inter have been very strong defensively as a team.

And for his part, Sommer is keen to give credit to his teammates and to his coach for their role in the team conceding very few goals during the first month of the season.

Yann Sommer: Inter Clean Sheets To The Credit Of The Whole Team

Sommer said of the impressive string of clean sheets that “It’s always been considered a record for goalkeepers. But obviously there’s a lot more that goes into it.”

“We defend our goal with a lot of passion,” he said.

“But at the same time, the defense also plays a huge role, in training and analysis,”

Sommer noted that Inter coach “Simone Inzaghi places huge importance on defense.”

As for his career decisions, Sommer said that “I would make every choice to change club in exactly the same way.”

“The time I spent with Bayern Munich was a good six months,” he said.

“We won the title in the end.”

Sommer noted that “Borussia Moenchengladbach welcomed me when I was young, and gave me a great opportunity to shine.”

“But at a certain point I felt that I wanted to make a change,” the Swiss said. “And I said so openly to the club.”

“The period I spent in Bavaria was positive. I learned a lot and I don’t want to forget it.:”
