Inter Milan have opted against thrusting club captain Lautaro Martinez back into action in this weekend’s encounter against Lecce.

The Argentine felt some pain during extra time against Bologna in the Coppa Italia fixture on Wednesday night.

The 26-year-old left the pitch in the 99th minute and could only watch in agony while the Emilians turned the result upside-down and thumped the Nerazzurri out of the cup.

Earlier reports suggested that the 2022 World Cup winner sustained a thigh problem.

On Friday, Lautaro will undergo medical tests to reveal the extent of the knock.

But according to Il Corriere dello Sport via FcInterNews, the club has decided to not risk the skipper against Lecce even prior to the results.

The Nerazzurri will host the Giallorossi at the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium on Saturday night.

Simone Inzaghi’s men will be looking to extend their impressive league run. Moreover, they will be hellbent on putting their Coppa Italia woes behind them as quickly as possible.

However, the manager will have to do without the services of his captain and main talisman.

Inter Milan Will Drop Lautaro Martinez This Weekend Vs Lecce

As the Roman newspaper explains, the results of the medical tests will determine the striker’s availability for next weekend’s trip to Liguria.

The Nerazzurri will take on Genoa at the Luigi Ferraris Stadium on December 29th.

As the report explains, the player’s condition doesn’t seem to be serious. Yet, an injury can’t be ruled out at this point.

So we shall see if Martinez will be able to make one more appearance in what has been a sensational year on a personal level. Otherwise, his return will be delayed till the new year.
