Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis offers a hint on the future of Inter Milan transfer target Piotr Zielinski in a rather snarky remark.

As we reported earlier today, the Italian champions are struggling to convince the Poland international of penning a contract renewal.

The 29-year-old’s current deal will expire at the end of the season. Thus, he will be free to sign for any club come July.

The Nerazzurri have been active on this front. They are reportedly close to striking an agreement with the midfielder that would see him join Simone Inzaghi’s ranks in the summer.

For his part, De Laurentiis hardly denied these speculations. The outspoken president almost confirmed it while aiming a slight dig at the player.

The Napoli patron claimed that Zielinski had previously expressed his intention to stay at the club for life. But his actions suggest otherwise.

“We are still negotiating. Zielinski said he wanted to stay in Naples for life. But between saying something and doing it, there’s a major difference,” noted De Laurentiis in his interview with Il Corriere dello Sport via FcInterNews.

“Since he’s Polish, his interest in the sun and sea may be limited. Perhaps he prefers the fog.”

The fog is an obvious reference to Northern Italy, particularly the Lombardy region where the city of Milano is situated.

The 29-year-old can either play as a box-to-box midfielder or an attacking midfielder. This season, he has thus far scored three goals and provided his teammates with three assists across all competitions.
