Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martinez and wingback Federico Dimarco should be able to return from their respective muscle injuries at the start of the new year.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who name the Serie A match against Hellas Verona as a return date for the pair. They’ll each miss two matches.

Inter will be without a couple of key players in this evening’s match against Lecce.

Both striker Martinez and wingback Dimarco will be unable to play due to injury.

For both players, the problem is a strain to the adductor muscles in their left thigh.

Martinez picked up his injury during the Nerazzurri’s Coppa Italia loss to Bologna during the week.

The 26-year-old had started the match. He saw out the full ninety minutes as well as ten or so minutes of extra time.

However, Martinez had to come off, visibly in discomfort.

And medical tests confirmed that the Argentine had suffered a thigh strain.

Meanwhile, Dimarco’s injury came as a bit of a surprise. Inter confirmed yesterday that the Italian international had suffered the same injury as Martinez during training.

When Lautaro Martinez & Federico Dimarco Can Return For Inter

Naturally, Inter coach Simone Inzaghi won’t want to be without Martinez and Dimarco for two long.

Both of the duo have key roles for the Nerazzurri.

So the big question will be when the two Inter players can return.

And according to the Gazzetta, it should be a couple weeks on the sidelines for both.

They will of course miss this evening’s league match against Lecce. And in six days’ time Inter are in action again, facing Genoa in Serie A.

Martinez and Dimarco will not likely be fit for that match.

But the pair should return in time to play in Inter’s Serie A match against Hellas Verona in January, their first of 2024.
