Defender Stefan de Vrij will be back fit on the bench for Inter Milan in this evening’s Serie A match against Lecce.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Corriere della Sera, via FCInterNews. The newspaper also anticipates that wingback Denzel Dumfries will be back to face Genoa next week.

Over the past three weeks, Inter have been experiencing something of an injury crisis in defense.

Both de Vrij and Dumfries picked up muscle injuries during the Serie A win away to Napoli at the start of the month.

The Dutch duo being out along with the absence of Benjamin Pavard meant that the team were looking very thin on the ground on the right side of the pitch.

Former Manchester United and Torino veteran Matteo Darmian has had to cover on either the right flank or on the right side of the back three in every match during the period,

And Germany Under-21 international Yann Bisseck has become a regular starter as well.

But soon, Inter will have something closer to a full complement in defense.

Stefan De Vrij Back On The Bench For Inter Vs Lecce Clash

According to the Corriere della Sera, 31-year-old former Lazio and Feyenoord defender de Vrij has completed his recovery.

The Dutchman will be fit enough to be called up to the squad for this evening’s match.

However, de Vrij will not start the match.

Francesco Acerbi will start in the centre of defense. And then on the right, Bisseck could keep his place, whilst Pavard is also fit.

But de Vrij could feature at some stage.

And the Dutchman is ready to start featuring in the matches to come.

Meanwhile, wingback Dumfries will still be absent. The 27-year-old has not recovered in time to be part of the squad to face Lecce.

But Dumfries should be able to be back in time for Friday’s Serie A match away to Genoa.
