Inter Milan’s contract talks with Denzel Dumfries are linked to their ongoing pursuit of Club Brugge and Canada winger Tajon Buchanan.

This according to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews.

At the moment, Dutch international wingback Dumfries is at a bit of a crossroads at Inter in terms of his contract situation.

The 27-year-old’s current deal runs out at the end of June 2025.

Therefore, Inter are absolutely vehement about extending Dumfries’s contract before this summer.

If the Nerazzurri and Dumfries cannot agree on a new deal, then the club will aim to sell the player.

Inter have absolutely no intention of seeing Dumfries head into the final season of his contract.

But there is still a fair bit of work to be done in contract talks between the parties.

Inter are not prepared to make an offer as high as what Dumfries and his representatives are demanding.

Denzel Dumfries Contract Talks Related To Inter Pursuit Of Tajon Buchanan

In the meantime, Inter are working to sign Brugge winger Buchanan.

The 24-year-old Canadian international is a player who the Nerazzurri have earmarked as a major reinforcement on the right flank.

The reason Inter are looking to sign Buchanan next month is because of the long-term absence of Juan Cuadrado.

The former Juventus wingback is out for the foreseeable future after undergoing calf surgery. Inter will need to find solutions to cover the right-wingback position for a few months.

Dumfries remains, of course. But the Dutchman has fitness issues of his own – he is currently out with a muscle injury.

And Matteo Darmian is needed as cover in defense as well as at right-wingback.

So Inter will aim to sign Buchanan next month to beef up their right flank.

But the Canadian’s arrival could change the complexion of contract talks between Inter and Dumfries.

If Buchanan is in the squad and is fitting in well, Inter could start to view him not just as a short-term replacement for Cuadrado, but also as a long-term replacement for Dumfries.

And then this could mean that there is less pressure on Inter to agree a new deal with Dumfries.

Therefore, it could become more likely that the Nerazzurri would cash in on the Dutchman in the summer.
