The arrival of winger Tajon Buchanan would impact Inter Milan to the tune of around €2-3 million.

Italian news outlet Calcio e Finanza analyze the total cost of a prospective deal for the 24-year-old between transfer fee amortization and wages.

Inter are not at the finish line in their pursuit of Buchanan.

But it appears likelier and likelier that the Nerazzurri will sign the Canadian international in the coming days.

Buchanan is the player who Inter want to sign to replace Juan Cuadrado. The 35-year-old ex-Juventus veteran will miss several months after receiving calf surgery.

And multiple sources confirm that Inter have already begun talks with Club Brugge to sign Buchanan.

Reportedly, Inter’s initial offer for the Canadian international is for around €6 million.

That is not what the Nerazzurri would sign Buchanan for, in all likelihood. Brugge will hold out for a higher bid.

But the two clubs are not a million miles apart.

Reports suggest that there is scope for Inter and Brugge to agree a fee.

How Tajon Buchanan Could Impact Inter Milan Balance Sheet In 2023-24

Brugge have a benchmark of around €10 million to sell Buchanan.

Inter have yet to make an offer that meets that valuation. But it won’t likely be too long before the Nerazzurri raise their bid, as they want to sign the 24-year-old soon.

Calcio e Finanza note that Inter could try to reach Brugge’s asking price using add-ons.

In other words, the Nerazzurri could offer €8 million as an initial fee. Then there could be a couple million more euros in add-ons.

That would likely see the two clubs reach an agreement.

And Inter are ready to sign Buchanan on a permanent basis right away rather than on an initial loan deal, reports suggest.

Therefore, the amortization of the transfer fee would begin as soon as Buchanan signs his contract.

Reportedly, the Canadian will sign a deal until the end of June 2028.

That would see the total fee amortized over four and a half years.

As such, for the first half a season that Buchanan would be at Inter, the total impact from the tansfer fee would be around €890,000.

Then in the 2024-25 season onwards, the fee would be amortized at €1.78 million per season.

Then, as far as Buchanan’s wages ago, reports suggest that the Canadian is ready to sign a contract worth around €1.5 million net per season.

The matter of what this would cost Inter in terms of gross wage expenditure would depend on the regulatory environment surrounding the Growth Decree.

If Inter are able to apply the tax benefits of the Growth Decree per existing regulations, then Buchanan’s gross wages will cost the club €1.87 million net per season.

That would mean that the cost for the second half of the 2023-24 season would be €980,000.

On the other hand, if the Growth Decree were to be scrapped, then Inter would have to pay around €2.78 million gross per season on Buchanan’s wages.

This would come to €1.39 million for the second half of the 2023-24 season.

Therefore, with the Growth Decree, the total impact of Buchanan’s signing on Inter’s balance sheet for the second half of the 2023-24 season would be around €1.87 million.

On the other hand, without it, that amount would rise to around €2.28 million.
