Inter Milan have extended the contract of midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan in time to keep the tax benefits of the Growth Decree.

This according to Italian news outlet Gazzetta.it, who also report that the Nerazzurri will have the option to terminate the Armenian’s deal a year early by paying a penalty.

Earlier today, Inter officially announced the extension of Mkitaryan’s contract until the end of June 2026.

The 34-year-old’s previous deal had run until the end of next June.

However, it always seemed clear that Inter would want to extend Mkhitaryan’s time at the club.

The veteran former Arsenal and Manchester United midfielder has remained a key player in Inter’s starting eleven virtually ever since he joined.

Mkhitaryan made the switch from Roma in the summer of 2022. He joined on a free transfer after his contract with the Giallorossi expired.

Inter Extend Contract Of Henrikh Mkhitaryan In Time To Keep Growth Decree Benefits

The Gazzetta have revealed a couple additional details of Mkhitaryan’s new contract.

The newspaper report that the midfielder will earn €3.9 million net per season for the remainder of his contract.

That is the same wages that Mkhitaryan had already been on.

The Gazzetta also report that the Nerazzurri have the option to terminate the Armenian’s contract one season early, at the end of June 2025.

But in order to do so, the newspaper reports, Inter would have to pay the player and his representatives a penalty.

Moreover, Inter will benefit from the Growth Decree on Mkhitaryan’s wages for the duration of the contract.

This is because the Nerazzurri have made it official before the end of the year.

At the end of 2023, the Italian government will scrap the tax benefits of the Growth Decree in football.

But by depositing the contract extension with the Lega Serie A before then, Inter will keep the benefits.
