It’s official – wingback Matteo Darmian has extended his contract with Inter Milan until the end of June 2025.

The club announced a new one-year deal for the 34-year-old former Manchester United and Torino veteran in a Twitter post.

Darmian has now been an Inter player for three and a half seasons.

The versatile defender joined the Nerazzurri in the summer of 2020.

In Darmian’s first season at Inter, the Italian international helped the club to their first Serie A title in eleven years.

Already that campaign, the veteran defender showed the versatility that was a key reason why Inter signed him.

Darmian could play on both the right and left flank. He started multiple matches in both wingback positions.

But that was just the beginning as far as Darmian’s versatility.

Matteo Darmian Extends Contract Until End Of June 2025

Starting last season, Darmian began regularly starting matches on the right of the back three.

The Italian playing in that role initially appeared to be more of an emergency or stopgap solution.

An injury to Milan Skriniar meant that Darmian became essentially first-choice in the role.

But Darmian has proven to be more than just a temporary option in defense.

The former United defender has proven that he can be a full-fledged starter there.

Darmian started every one of Inter’s knockout matches in the Champions League last season in defense, including the final of the competition against Manchester City.

This season, the 34-year-old has started regularly at both right-wingback and right-centre-back.

Darmian has even played on the left on occasion.

The Italian international may be well into his thirties. But he is showing no signs of slowing down.

Darmian had already made 134 appearances for Inter, a number that could just keep increasing.

The 34-year-old’s previous deal ran until the end of June 2024.

But now, Darmian will be under contract for an additional season. He is still part of the plans at Inter.
