Midfielder Piotr Zielinski is getting closer and closer to joining Inter Milan next summer, as Napoli won’t equal the Nerazzurri’s offer.

This according to today’s print edition of Naples-based newspaper Il Mattino, via FCInterNews.

29-year-old Polish international Zielinski’s future has become the subject of heated speculation in the last couple months.

The Pole’s current contract with Napoli runs out at the end of next June.

Zielinski stayed at the Partenopei over the summer despite the fact that Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli showed a strong interest in his signature.

The Saudi club offered Zielinski a massive contract worth €15 million net per season. But he decided to stay at Napoli.

However, the reigning Italian champions did not extend the midfielder’s contract in the summer.

And when Napoli began contract talks with Zielinski and his representatives with the current season already underway, things quickly stalled.

The 29-year-old wants a higher offer than what the Partenopei have so far put on the table.

Napoli have so far offered €3.5 million net per season. That is less than what Zielinski currently earns.

And the player has no intention of accepting that offer.

Piotr Zielinski Edges Towards Inter As Napoli Won’t Equal Nerazzurri Contract Offer

Inter’s interest in Zielinski is now hardly a secret.

The Nerazzurri have taken notice of the former Empoli and Udinese midfielder’s contract situation.

There has already been contact between Inter, who believe that there is an opportunity for a major coup of a free transfer, and Zielinski’s representatives.

Il Mattino confirm that Inter have offered the Polish international a three-year deal worth €4.5 million net per season.

And Napoli have made clear to the player and his representatives that they will not equal that.

Therefore, Zielinski is on the verge of rejecting Napoli’s offer for good.

As such, Inter are now in the driver’s seat to sign Zielinski on a free transfer next summer.
