Man United target Denzel Dumfries is getting likelier and likelier to leave Inter Milan during the summer transfer window.
This according to Italian news outlet FCInterNews, who report that contract talks between the Nerazzurri and the Dutchman are not moving in a very positive direction.
Dumfries is currently under contract with Inter until the end of June 2025.
Therefore, the Nerazzurri want to either extend the 27-year-old’s contract before the end of the season, or else plan to sell him in the summer.
Inter would have absolutely no intention of seeing Dumfries leave on a free transfer in eighteen months’ time.
As such, Inter will cash in when they have the chance.
That does not mean that there is no chance of Inter and Dumfries agreeing a contract extension.
The talks have not finished. But they have stalled somewhat in recent weeks.
The reason why is the sizable gap between Inter’s offer and the demands of Dumfries and his representatives.
The Nerazzurri have put a new deal worth around €3.8-4 million net per season on the table. Dumfries and his representatives want €5 million net per season.
Moreover, the expiration of the Growth Decree in Italian football would make it more difficult for Inter to get closer to Dumfries’s demands.
Man United Target Denzel Dumfries Closer & Closer To Exit Door At Inter
With all of this being said, Inter are definitely considering selling Dumfries in the summer.
The arrival of Tajon Buchanan as an option on the right flank could also see the club prepare for the Dutchman’s exit.
In this sense, it would be similar to when Inter signed Robin Gosens in January of 2022. That move laid the groundwork for the departure of Ivan Perisic.
If Dumfries is to be up for sale, there is interest from the Premier League.
English giants Manchester United are admirers of the Dutchman.
Should Erik ten Hag remain the Red Devils’ coach, he would be interested in bringing his compatriot to Old Trafford.
With Aaron Wan-Bissaka likely to leave at the end of his contract, right-back will certainly be a target for United.
And Dumfries being out the door at Inter could mean that things line up perfectly.
The two clubs could certainly begin negotiations for a transfer if Inter are not able to agree a new contract with Dumfries.
