The next day or two will be decisive as far as the fitness of Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martinez to face Hellas Verona on Saturday.
This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews.
Martinez has missed the past couple matches for Inter.
The Argentine’s absence is a rare sight for the Nerazzurri.
Prior to the last couple weeks, the most recent instance of Martinez not being available for Inter had been a Serie A match against Hellas Verona in May 2022.
And even then, that had been the result of a suspension rather than injury.
Martinez has not necessarily always been 100% fit. On the contrary, the 26-year-old has notably played through pain, including due to an ankle injury last season.
But this month, Martinez has picked up an injury significant enough to force him to sit out a couple matches.
The Argentine suffered a thigh problem during Inter’s Coppa Italia loss to Bologna before Christmas.
This means that Martinez missed the Nerazzurri’s last two Serie A matches. Marko Arnautovic and Marcus Thuram led the line in a win over Lecce and draw against Verona.
Next Couple Days Decisive For Lautaro Martinez Fitness To Face Hellas Verona
But Martinez’s injury should not keep on the sidelines for much longer.
In fact, there is a very good chance that the Argentine will return to the pitch in time for Inter’s next match, against Verona at the San Siro.
Martinez is not quite back to full fitness yet.
But the next day or two of training should give a clear signal regarding whether he will be able to complete his recovery progress in time for this weekend’s match against the Gialloblu.
Then, the question could be whether Martinez will be fit enough to start.
The 26-year-old could also begin on the bench and then come on as a substitute.
