Inter Milan will only sign Atalanta striker Luis Muriel during the January transfer window if Alexis Sanchez leaves.
This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews.
With the January transfer window now underway, Inter are giving some thought to their attack.
Whilst Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram have made sure that the Nerazzurri suffer no lack of quality in the final third, behind the starting duo things start to look a little dicier.
Marko Arnautovic has shown a few positive signs in his last three starts for Inter.
But prior to last month, injuries and a lack of form or consistency were the themes of the Austrian’s season.
The same can largely said about Alexis Sanchez.
Inter signed both of the pair of veterans in the summer as short-term reinforcements behind the starting strike pair.
But with the former Premier League strikers’ relatively paltry contribution, there could be motivation for Inter to intervene in the transfer market this month.
And one name that Inter could turn to is that of Atalanta striker Muriel.
Inter Would Only Move For Luis Muriel If Alexis Sanchez Departs
Sooner or later, Muriel will leave Atalanta.
The Colombian’s contract with La Dea runs out at the end of June. And there is no sign that it will be extended.
Atalanta are focusing on several younger forwards currently in the squad.
So the Lombard team could even cash in on Muriel this month, for a relatively small fee.
And Muriel would certainly bring with him plenty of Serie A experience and proven quality.
That would make the 32-year-old a tempting short-term target for Inter.
But according to the Corriere, that would be entirely contingent on Sanchez leaving.
Inter have absolutely no intention of signing a striker like Muriel whilst they already have four senior forward options in the squad.
