Inter Milan are considering a move to sign Atalanta striker Luis Muriel during the January transfer window.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

In less than two weeks, Inter will have the opportunity to dip into the transfer market to strengthen their squad for the second half of the current season.

There are a couple areas where the Nerazzurri would consider making a move.

And one of the main ones is at striker.

The Nerazzurri have given indications that they will stick with what they have. The club have been open about their intention to sign a right-wingback given Juan Cuadrado’s need for surgery, but have issued denials that they’ll sign a striker.

But behind the scenes, the Gazzetta anticipate, Inter are looking for opportunities.

The less-than-stellar performances of Marko Arnautovic and Alexis Sanchez so far this season have pushed Inter to seek out other possibilities.

Inter Consider January Move For Atalanta Striker Luis Muriel

According to the Gazzetta, Inter’s intention would be to move for a striker on loan, or in a very low-cost deal.

The Nerazzurri’s top target in attack is Porto striker Mehdi Taremi.

But the Iranian is more a player who Inter want next summer. He will be available on a free transfer then.

The funds are not there to sign Taremi for a fee next month. Particularly not if Inter move for a reinforcement on the right flank.

As such, the club are seeking out other opportunities.

One such opportunity could present itself in the form of 32-year-old former Sevilla, Fiorentina, and Sampdoria striker Muriel.

The Colombian, who joined Atalanta in 2019, is currently under contract with La Dea until the end of next June.

At the moment, there is no indication that Muriel will sign an extension with Atalanta.

A loan would be unlikely for Muriel next month. But Inter could try to convince Atalanta to cash in on the veteran striker for a relatively low fee.
