Napoli are reportedly trying their best to maintain Piotr Zielinski, but the midfielder is ready to tie the knot with Inter Milan.

The Poland international has been plying his trade in Serie A since joining Udinese as a teenager in 2011.

The 29-year-old has been a protagonist for the Partenopei since 2016, winning the Coppa Italia in 2020, and more importantly, the Scudetto title last term.

However, the midfielder’s contract will expire at the end of the season and Napoli have been struggling to get a grasp on the situation.

According to Tuttosport via FcInterNews, the reigning Italian champions are still hoping that the Pole accepts their renewal offer. They have raised their offer to 5 million euros per season as net wages.

Yet, Zielinski is reportedly keen on joining the Nerazzurri, even if their offer is slightly lower from an economic perspective.

The source claims that the former Udinese and Empoli man will accept Inter’s proposal which would see him earn 4.5 million euros per year.

Piotr Zielinski To Reject Napoli Contract Extension In Favor Of Joining Inter Milan

The Turin-based newspaper adds that Zielinski would initially serve as the future heir of Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

The Armenian veteran remains a key figure in Simone Inzaghi’s 3-5-2 system. He often serves as the link between the midfield and the attack.

However, the former Man Utd, Arsenal and AS Roma star will turn 35 at the end of the month, hence the need for a long-term replacement at Appiano Gentile.

This season, Zielinski has contributed with three goals and as many assists in 24 appearances between Serie A and the Champions League.

While he hasn’t been enjoying his most prolific campaign, Napoli’s abysmal form is certainly taking its toll on his displays.
