Midfielder Davide Frattesi and defender Stefan de Vrij will start for Inter Milan in this evening’s Serie A match against Monza.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. The newspaper anticipates that the duo will start in favour of Nicolo Barella and Francesco Acerbi respectively.

Inter coach Simone Inzaghi will already be thinking about squad rotation.

In the Nerazzurri’s first match of 2024, last weekend against Hellas Verona, the coach essentially just picked his strongest possible starting eleven.

But now that Inter have a slew of tough fixtures on the way, including the Supercoppa Italiana next week, Inzaghi will not want to simply put out the same lineup every match and burn out key players.

Therefore, there will be a couple of notable changes in the starting eleven this evening.

Frattesi & De Vrij To Start For Inter Vs Monza – Barella & Acerbi On The Bench

According to the Gazzetta, 24-year-old Italian international Frattesi will get his second ever Serie A start this evening.

Frattesi was the hero last weekend against Verona. He came off the bench to score the Nerazzurri’s stoppage time winner.

Frattesi has been much more of an impact substitute so far this season in Serie A.

In the Champions League, it’s been a bit of a different story.

But against Monza this evening in Brianza, the former Sassuolo midfielder will get his chance from the start.

That will mean that Barella makes way, with Hakan Calhanoglu and Henrikh Mkhitaryan forming the rest of the trio.

Another player to drop out will be Acerbi, according to the Gazzetta.

The veteran defender has not quite looked at his best in recent matches. Therefore, he will get a rest – fellow former Lazio defender de Vrij will start in his place.

Meanwhile, on the flanks the Gazzetta expect Italian international pair Federico Dimarco and Matteo Darmian to start.
