Defender Francesco Acerbi feels that Inter Milan put their Champions League final defeat to Man City behind them very quickly.

The 35-year-old spoke to the Instagram account Che Fatica La Vita Da Bomber, looking back on the Nerazzurri’s loss in Istanbul last June.

Inter’s season came close to ending in triumph last year. But instead, it ended in heartbreak.

The Nerazzurri faced Manchester City in European club football’s biggest match.

And Inter went toe-to-toe with the Premier League giants.

However, that didn’t prove to be enough. The Nerazzurri fell to a 1-0 defeat which saw them miss out on an improbable European triumph.

But life went on. Inter came into the current season with new objectives.

The Nerazzurri are fighting for the Serie A title, having failed to win it in each of the past two seasons.

And in Europe, Inter are still alive in the Champions League.

The Nerazzurri could forge a path to the final of the competition similar to last season’s, starting with next month’s round of sixteen tie against Atletico Madrid.

So far this campaign, Inter do not look like a team who have allowed the way the last one ended to get them down.

Francesco Acerbi: Inter Put Past UCL Final Defeat Vs Man City Behind Them The Next Day

Asked when Inter put the loss behind them, Acerbi replied “The next day.”

“When you lose you reflect on the things you could have done better,” he continued.

“It’s fine to do that when things go wrong.”

“But they’re all experiences you have,” the Italian international said. “We never thought we’d get to the final and actually be able to win it.”

“That’s the kind of experience that playing in finals like that brings,” Acerbi continued.

“But after a while you look into your heart, and you know where you have to start all over again,” he reflected.

“Just like when I win,” the former Lazio defender explained.

“I celebrate and then I start again. It went the way it was supposed to go.”
