Inter Milan have identified Atalanta’s Emil Holm as a replacement for wingback Denzel Dumfries for next summer.

This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews.

Dumfries is a player whose future at Inter looks up in the air at the moment.

The Dutchman is now in his third season with the Nerazzurri. He joined from PSV in the summer of 2021.

Dumfries is still on the same four-year deal that he initially signed, which takes him until the end of June 2025.

And whilst the Nerazzurri have already completed the long-term contract extension of Federico Dimarco and are on course to do the same with Lautaro Martinez and Nicolo Barella, the picture is different with Dumfries.

One thing that’s clear is that Inter don’t want to let Dumfries go into the final year of his deal without an extension.

Therefore, if the 27-year-old doesn’t sign a new deal, the Nerazzurri would look to sell him next summer.

Inter Target Emil Holm As Replacement For Denzel Dumfries

Tuttosport report that Inter aim to cash in on Dumfries for around €40-45 million if they do sell him.

The former PSV wingback remains a target for clubs in the Premier League.

And Inter have already brought in one player who could make the loss of Dumfries easier to bear. Tajon Buchanan came in from Club Brugge at the start of this month.

But the Nerazzurri would likely still need one more player for the right-wingback position.

The wide roles are physically demanding ones in the 3-5-2 shape the Inter play.

Therefore, coach Simone Inzaghi prefers to have several options at his disposal to rotate and make substitutions during matches.

And according to Tuttosport, Inter have a clear target in mind to replace Dumfries.

Spezia-owned wingback Emil Holm was also on the Nerazzurri’s radar last summer.

But the Swede ended up joining Atalanta. La Dea signed him on a paid loan for €2.5 million, whilst they have a purchase option for €8.5 million.

And according to Tuttosport, Inter would be keen to sign Holm, whether from Spezia or from Atalanta, in the event that they sell Dumfries.
