Inter Milan defender Matteo Darmian feels that the team are hungry for another trophy after their demolition of Lazio yesterday.
The 34-year-old spoke to InterTV after the 3-0 Supercoppa Italiana win, via FCInterNews.
This season’s Supercoppa follows a new format.
Rather than being a one-off match, the competition is now a four-team mini-tournament.
Therefore, Inter have not yet secured their third successive victory in the Supercoppa despite putting in a statement performance against Lazio yesterday.
It was a match that felt in many ways similar to the last one that Inter played In Riyadh. That was a 3-0 victory against AC Milan.
But this time around, Inter must play a further match.
The Nerazzurri will meet Napoli in the final of the Supercoppa.
The Partenopei overcame Fiorentina in the other semifinal match to book their place in the final.
Despite the Supercoppa changing format, it will end up with last season’s Coppa Italia and Serie A winners vying for the trophy once again.
Matteo Darmian: Inter Want Another Trophy After Lazio Win
Darmian said of yesterday evening’s match that “It was a difficult match and we knew it would be.”
“We went onto the pitch with the right kind of determination.”
Darmian said that “We did what we had prepared to do very well. We deserve to be in the final.”
“The Supercoppa is another trophy up for grabs,” the former Manchester United and Parma man added.
“We always want to win, and aspire to the absolute best.”
“That’s what we’ve always done, and we’ll do it in the final as well,” Darmian said.
Of the upcoming final against Napoli, Darmian predicted that “It will be a tough match against a strong opponent.”
“But our desire is to win and bring home another trophy,” he added.
And of the atmosphere in the stadium yesterday, Darmian said that “It’s always great to feel the love from the fans.”
“We want to work hard to try and pay back the love we always get,” he added.
