Simone Inzaghi has earned praise for setting up his team for a 3-0 thrashing of Lazio in yesterday’s Supercoppa Italiana clash.

Today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews, give the Nerazzurri coach a score of 8/10 in the player ratings for the match.

It is no mystery how Inzaghi wants his team to play.

The 47-year-old has become synonymous with the 3-5-2 formation.

And beyond the formation, which is similar on paper to those utilized by other major Italian coaches such as Antonio Conte and Gian Piero Gasperini, Inzaghi uses the shape in a particular way.

The Nerazzurri’s attacking football revolves around creating numerical overloads quickly to move the ball from back to front.

Inter are not the most methodical team in possession under Inzaghi.

Rather, the former Lazio coach stresses being proactive and trying to create danger quickly.

Simone Inzaghi Praised For Masterminding Inter Win Vs Lazio

Naturally, Inter do not always play the way that their coach wants them to.

Sometimes, the tactics are a mismatch for an opposing team who are able to effectively counteract the Nerazzurri’s buildup play and restrict the influence of key players.

But yesterday, Lazio were certainly not one such team.

Facing his former team the Biancocelesti, Inzaghi watched his team completely overrun the opposition.

The speed with which the Inter players moved the ball proved to be too much for a rather passive-looking Lazio team.

And the long diagonal balls that have become a hallmark of Inzaghi’s system for creating overloads looked like a very effective weapon indeed.

Of course, Inter’s players deserve high marks for their performances executing Inzaghi’s instruction.

But in the view of Tuttosport, it was the coach who deserved more credit than anyone else.

No individual player received a higher grade than the coach, although all of Nicolo Barella, Hakan Calhanoglu, Marcus Thuram, and Federico Dimarco received 7.5/10 scores.
