Inter Milan match-winner Lautaro Martinez is proud of the team after they emerged victorious in the Supercoppa Italiana against Napoli.
The 26-year-old spoke to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset, via FCInterNews, after the 1-0 win in the final.
Inter have won the Supercoppa for the third season in a row.
The Nerazzurri have left it late as they had done two years ago.
Even after Napoli went down to ten men following a second yellow for striker Giovanni Simeone, Inter found it difficult to break down the reigning Serie A table.
However, it was the Nerazzurri’s top scorer and captain Martinez who popped up.
In the dying minutes of the match, the Argentine latched onto a ball from substitute Alexis Sanchez that the entire Partenopei defense had been unable to cut out.
And that was all it took. Martinez had the ball in the back of the net, and Inter have their hands on the Supercoppa trophy yet again.
Inter Match-Winner Lautaro Martinez Proud After Supercoppa Triumph
“I’m very happy,” Martinez said after the match.
“It was definitely a goal for us this season, especially after going out of the Coppa Italia.”
Martinez went on that “We had a great match against Lazio.”
“And today we had to do our job.”
The Nerazzurri captain admitted that “It was tough for us having one less day of rest than them.”
“We had to struggle, but in the end we brought home the trophy. I’m proud of this team.”
Martinez said that the reaction in celebrating the goal under members of the Curva Nord was “Emotional.”
“You don’t always think like things like getting a booking for taking off you shirt in moments like these,” the Inter captain continued.
And he added that “Today I drew level with Bobo Vieri, a great guy, in the scoring charts at Inter. And I did so in the Supercoppa final.”
