Nicolo Barella is next in line for a contract extension at Inter Milan after the Nerazzurri wrap up Lautaro Martinez’s new deal.

This according to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInter1908.

Inter already got a trio of major contract extensions out of the way at the end of last year.

All of Federico Dimarco, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, and Matteo Darmian put pen to paper on new deals with the Nerazzurri shortly before the new year.

And Sky confirm that the next in line will be Inter captain Lautaro Martinez.

A new contract for the Argentine has always looked to be on the horizon. The only question has been when.

And Sky report that an extension for the captain is indeed only a matter of time.

But Inter will not finish there. They will also work to secure the long-term future of another key player in the squad over the coming weeks and years.

Nicolo Barella Next In Line For Inter Contract Extension After Lautaro Martinez

Like Martinez, Barella is currently under contract with Inter until the end of June 2026.

Both of the pair signed their current deals in the fall of 2021.

And as with the captain, Barella is a player who Inter are absolutely determined to keep hold of for the long haul.

The Italian international is a pillar of the Nerazzurri’s starting eleven like Martinez is.

Therefore, Sky report, Inter will work to extend the former Cagliari midfielder’s contract until the end of June 2028, as they will soon do for Martinez.

Meanwhile, Sky reports, the situation is much more uncertain regarding the future of wingback Denzel Dumfries.

At present, the 27-year-old Dutch international is under contract with Inter until the end of June 2025.

The Nerazzurri will certainly look to sell Dumfries in the summer if he doesn’t agree a new deal.

And it’s not certain how things will go if or when contract talks with Dumfries start back up in the spring.
