23-year-old Portuguese defender Tiago Djalo has revealed why he rejected an Inter Milan move to instead join Juventus.
Djalo gave his reasoning behind the decision whilst speaking at a press conference during his unveiling as a Bianconeri player, as reported by FCInterNews.
Now it’s official – Djalo is a Juventus player.
The Portuguese joins the Bianconeri from Lille just six months before his contract with his former club would have expired.
Inter had been aiming to sign Djalo as well.
The Nerazzurri have been targeting the Portuguese for at least a year.
And the fact that Djalo would have been available on a free transfer next summer made the 23-year-old an even more appealing target for Inter.
But Lille wanted to cash in on Djalo whilst they had the chance.
And Juventus were the club who stepped forward to get a deal done for the young defender.
The Bianconeri made a sufficient offer to the French club. And, crucially, they also convinced the player.
Djalo had reportedly had a verbal agreement with Inter for some time.
But in the end, the 23-year-old made a U-Turn, and now he will be playing for their rivals in the Serie A title race, Juventus.,
Tiago Djalo On Why He Rejected Inter To Join Juventus
“I felt that Juventus were the team that wanted to give me this great opportunity,” Djalo said upon his unveiling as a Bianconeri player.
“I’m happy to be here at a great club with a great history,” he continued.
“I think I did well in signing for Juventus,” Djalo added.
And then, Djalo also gave his thoughts on the Serie A title race between his new team and Inter.
“”We have to do a good job,” the defender made clear.
“We’re in a title race with a quality team,” he added.
“We want to win and we have to do everything for it.”
“It’s a difficult league,” Djalo said. “It’s important that we play well in every match, and I think we have the quality to win the Scudetto.”
