There is still some way separating Inter Milan and Lautaro Martinez in contract extension talks.

Italian news outlet FCInterNews report that the 26-year-old and his agent expect an offer that goes above €10 million including add-ons before putting pen to paper on a new deal.

Recently, Martinez’s agent Alejandro Camano made some comments on the contract extension talks with Inter.

The agent made clear that it is the Argentine’s desire to remain at the Nerazzurri.

However, he also cautioned that there is still some work to be done in negotiations.

And Camano also remarked that Martinez expects a pay raise equal to what he “deserves” based on his quality.

This seemed like an oblique reference to Inter’s offers so far not having been high enough.

And according to FCIN, that is ineed the case.

Distance Remains Between Inter & Lautaro Martinez In Contract Talks

According to FCIN, Inter’s offer currently stands at around €8 million before the inclusion of any add-ons.

Then, add-ons could take this amount to right around €10 million.

But according to FCIN, there are still discussions between the Nerazzurri and Martinez’s representatives regarding the exact figures for the add-ons, and just as importantly, how they would be triggered.

Inter have offered add-ons that mainly relate to team performance. So in other words, Champions League qualification, trophies, points totals, and so forth.

Some of these would be relatively trivial to achieve. Others less so.

Meanwhile, Martinez and his representatives are asking for the add-ons to be more straightforward.

And they also want more add-ons that are linked to the individual performances by Martinez.

So in other words, add-ons that relate to how many goals the Inter captain scores.

The intention of Martinez and his agent Camano, ultimately, is to make it so that it is all but certain that his total net annual wages will be around €10 million.

This would take him to right around what Napoli’s Victor Osimhen earns. The Partenopei agreed a deal with the Nigerian worth €10 million net per season to keep their star striker at the club.

And then, there is Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic. The Serb currently earns around €12 million net per season.

Demands To Be Brought In Line With Other Top Serie A Strikers

Over the past few seasons, there would seem to be very little question that Martinez is easily on par with either of those players among Serie A’s top strikers.

This time around, the Argentine leads the Italian top flight for goals, and quite handily at the moment.

So ultimately, Martinez and his representatives want to secure a long-term deal that would bring him in line with other top strikers in the division.

Perhaps a seven or eight months ago, an offer of €7.5-8 million net per season would have sufficed.

But quite a bit has changed since then.

Inter reached the Champions League final, bringing significant revenues as well as prestige.

And Martinez himself has only gone from strength to strength in terms of his individual performances.

So the Argentine will expect more than that.

And in the meantime, FCIN report, Camano was referencing interest from Real Madrid, Manchester United, and Paris Saint-Germain when he said that there was other interest in Martinez’s signature.

However, Los Blancos would seem to have put all their eggs in the Kylian Mbappe basket.

And United have also seemingly receded in the race, having little chance of signing Martinez.

On the other hand, the fact that PSG have recently completed a big money deal for another of Camano’s clients, Achraf Hakimi, could bode well for the club from the French capital.
