Defender Stefan de Vrij will start for Inter Milan in tomorrow evening’s Serie A match away to Fiorentina.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews. The newspaper report that the 31-year-old will occupy the central position in the Nerazzurri’s back three.

De Vrij has been enjoying a positive season so far.

The former Lazio defender has not necessarily been first choice in defense. It is still Francesco Acerbi who tends to start in the central position in the big matches.

However, de Vrij has nevertheless gotten plenty of playing time.

The Dutchman has been an important part of Inter’s defensive depth.

This has also included showing that he is capable of deputizing on the right side of the defensive line when called upon.

Having somewhat lost his form during each of the two prior campaigns, de Vrij has started to look more like the player who was a key player in Inter’s defense on the way to the Serie A title in 2021.

Stefan De Vrij To Start For Inter Vs Fiorentina

De Vrij recently started in the Supercoppa Italiana final against Napoli.

This was due to Alessandro Bastoni being out of the team due to fitness reasons.

Therefore, Acerbi shifted over to the left, and de Vrij played in the central position.

As he has been doing throughout the current season, the 31-year-old put in an accomplished game, hardly letting Napoli forwards Giovanni Simeone and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia get a kick of the ball.

And according to La Repubblic, de Vrij will once again get the chance to start against Fiorentina tomorrow.

The Dutchman, who joined Inter from the Biancocelesti on a free transfer in 2018, will start in his usual position in the centre of the backline.

Meanwhile, La Repubblica report, Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram will start in attack.
